Tech Tip: How To Solve The Wi-Fi Error In Android Phones

If you have an Android mobile and use WiFi (WLAN) often, you may encounter this. There’s nothing to worry about this WiFi error in Android mobiles and it may seem unsolvable. Samsung’s Galaxy series Android phones encounter this WiFi error in most cases. The reason is that the driver is not installed properly. You will never be able to activate WiFi in your Android when this problem raises. And you cannot use WiFi hotspot feature.

Solution:
It’s a piece of cake, when it comes to solving this problem.
So all that you have to do is,
Open your keypad and type in *#*#526#*#*
And wait for a few seconds till it says that the process was successful.
You won't face any problems hereafter.
IF you face it again, repeat this process.

Some people include this problem in the list of disadvantages of Android mobiles and cause buyers to fear about purchasing an Android phone.
It’s simple, solving this.

So, there’s nothing to worry about the WiFi error in Android mobiles. Share this with your friends.

I Didn’t Visit The Colombo Motor Show 2011

Surprise, Surprise!  There is a Convention/Exhibition/Show (call it whatever) here in Sri Lanka which I never missed since its inception; The Colombo Motor Show. This year however I didn’t go… though I had time at hand. Being a Motor Vehicle Enthusiast (call me a “Petrolhead” if you will) this baffled me. Have I lost interest in the enthusiasm? It’s not that… I answered myself. It’s just that the Show is all boring… it’s the same thing each year, every year. No wonder I didn’t went.

The Colombo Motor Show is a great concept. It caters to a minority of Sri Lankans who actually care about cool cars and the culture associated with them. It was a good idea at first and I certainly enjoyed looking at cars which I can’t buy… yet. However, in the recent years, I don’t see them bringing in new cars that add a value to the show. Yes, I know they brought a Porsche Panamera Hybrid S… I see it every morning when I’m going to work and every evening coming back from work… I live near the Porsche Center of Sri Lanka, darn-tootin! But that’s not the point. Why can’t they do something unique for the show? I see my friends posting pics from this year's show… it’s cool that they had fun… but it was evident enough that it’s the same show from last year save a few for one or two new cars.

So, buck-up organizers… I want to see the next year’s exhibition,  I want to see an exhibition fitting enough to the said year, not the previous year’s one.

For, I Can't Help Falling In Love With You...

This song is buzzing in my head suddenly. I might as well get it out…

Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay, would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be

Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you
For I can't help falling in love with you

Jobless Apple

I disagree with Apple over its market dominance in many ways than one (or should I say “iDisagree”). Never-the-less Apple had one of the most brilliant minds born to this century; Steve Jobs.
It was announced today that Mr. Jobs is resigning. Can Apple Inc. survive without Steve? That is the question.
Whenever Steve walked onto a stage, he revolutionizes “Gadgets”. Whether it’s the introduction of the iPod (which revolutionized the MP3 player) to the introduction of the iPad (which revolutionized the Tablet PC), he always maintained the charisma of an unstoppable inventor; a thinker like no one else.
I cannot see a Computer Industry without Steve. He’s the one who popularized the iPhone, leading the way to a new dawn of Smartphones.  He’s the guy who turned Geeks/Nerds into super cool hippies. He’s the one who changed the way girls thought of the boys; “Smart is the new sexy”. As a Geek/Nerd, you have my gratitude Mr. Jobs. Sure, I love Android, sure I love Nokia, sure I love Asus… but you got to hand it over to Steve Jobs, the guy’s got style.
Steve Jobs is an icon (Or should I say… an iCon). But when he said “I Quit” (Yes, yes. I know, I know… he said “iQuit”) Apple just got bitten hard (pun intended).
Let’s see Apple, let’s see what you’ve got up your sleeve. Apple without Steve is like a… Ooh, I can’t tell it here can I? You guys guess!

...Will It Not?

We took a chance, We took a shot
We don’t want to be people who we are not
You let us go, we have forgot
You are really bad, but we are not

We’re sick and tired of your attitude
Even though we don’t show you
Look at what you’ve done to yourself… have you not?

In this twilight darkness
You sit alone in your apartment
Not even care in the world you forgot

But one day you will realize
With teardrops in your little eyes
What have you done to yourself… will it not?

...Little Baby!

We were once told
That one day we will hold
Written in letters gold
Somewhere near the fold

It may be a baby boy
But not an easy toy
It may be a baby girl
So beautiful as a pearl

Do take a good look
Our wonderful little book
With magic that we cook
No one never mistook

…The Stage

2 years back, a bespectacled black haired skinny boy stepped onto a stage to deliver his first presentation. Shunted aside and thrown out of his own project group not too long ago, he was determined to prove himself. And NO, the boy is not Harry Potter… He is me.

Here I am… 2 years later on the same stage along with three other people to do just the same. It wasn’t easy. We fought, we made mistakes, but more importantly we did what we do best… We stuck together. We had differences, we disagreed… but it was all part of a learning curve. We had fun, we shared joy, two of us even fell in love.

NIBM’s BSc Hall/Hall No. 14/Professor Harrison Hall… Call it whatever you want, but that was the hall we all stood together for a year. But where did those friendships went? Questions are asked but never to be answered.

So, there we were… Umesh, Chathu, Rasanka and Me… On a stage on our moment of truth.

Final Touchdown Of Space Shuttle Discovery...

Space Shuttle Discovery (Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-103) was one of the orbiters in the Space Shuttle fleet of NASA, the space agency of the United States, operating from its maiden flight beginning on August 30, 1984 until its final landing on March 9, 2011 with a cumulative total of one full year (365 days) in space; the longest of any spaceship in the world.

I had the huge privilege of watching the final touchdown live over the Internet via CNN. For me it was a sentimental moment. Being an astronomy enthusiast, I know what it means to astronomers to say goodbye to a piece of engineering with a heart and a soul.

Here I am sharing some images I took from the live broadcast of the Final Moments of Space Shuttle Discovery.

P.S: We’ll soon see this magnificent giant as an Autobot on Transformers: Dark Of The Moon.

...The Milestone

We take long journeys and hard decisions
Then something might go wrong
But, should we give-up at that point, we are not just disappointing ourselves
We then are letting-down the people who helped us to come this far
But there are those who would not look back at you...
No matter how close you were to them in the past
That doesn't mean we should be like that
We should be more
Give to those who gave
Give to those who didn't gave
What's the difference? you might ask
The difference is "all the difference in the world"
For that difference differs who we are
When one day, your earth goes dark
You'll see that there is at-least one person holding a light for you
It maybe just one person, but be glad at least you have one
Because there are some who have none
Why? Because they had left the people who gave
There is no one to give to them now
See that... That's the difference
But... one day, you'll reach a milestone
Only you'd know
Look back...
Say "Thank You!"
That makes you a better person than the rest of the world
Till All Are One!

WTF @ CWC?...

I’m not a big fan of Cricket but I support my country in every way possible. Oh yes, you know what I’m talking about… Cricket World Cup is here. And the Opening Ceremony was… kind of OK!?!

I’m a HUGE fan of Opening Ceremonies and Closing Ceremonies of sports events. These are just absolute wonderful pieces of art, showing the culture, heritage of the said country. It seems as though this doesn’t apply to South Asian region. Alright let’s not just go that far… It doesn’t apply to Sri Lanka more specifically.

I first experienced our lack of pride towards the country’s heritage at sports events when “Ladaki badi” (or whatever it was called) played and teeny-tiny kids danced sensually (bad word, couldn’t find anything else) to it. I mean, Come-on? We chose to play a 'Hindi' song at a 'Sri Lankan' (organized) sports festival. This isn’t even a local event. An entire region was watching. Indians must have been laughing their @$$es-off in India.

And now this. A song for a sports event should make our team proud of what they are about to do. It should be motivational and give off a sense of honor. Turn on your TV at 10am. You’ll hear dozens of songs written and performed specifically for the Cricket World Cup. Only few are worthy. Other songs are just pieces of garbage. What drug were they on when they wrote the songs?

Yesterday… BnS… What happened dudes? You guys are my heroes. I looked up to you. You have changed the Sri Lankan music industry (in a good way). But what-in-the-world has happened to you now? Your Cricket song is not a song… it’s a friking commercial for “Koththu-Me”. And what were you doing yesterday at the Opening Ceremony? I’ve seen trained monkeys perform better (seriously, I have).

South Asian Countries, Google “Asian Games 2010 Opening/Closing Ceremony China” and learn. Period!

A School With A Difference...

VERY promising!

A Boy And His Car…

Every boy love to own a car. When he comes of age, which is one of his dreams. I was lucky enough to drive few new cars, enough to tell you some tips about what to buy first. I’ll tell you a little bit about some cars you should consider buying first if you are living in Sri Lanka.

Indian Cars… That should sum things up. Cheap and small, ideal for any boy to buy one if he’s “new” conscience. Let’s rundown some cars I know. Best for the last…

Maruti Suzuki
Cheap; that’s the only good thing about it. It’s not a bad car, but no soul or passion. Ride is stiff and uncomfortable. You do get a “Car” for the namesake of it. Buy this if you have absolutely no money to buy anything else. Good mileage to the gallon though. Seating best for 4 (including the driver).

TATA Indigo
Good car. Lightyears better than Maruti. Got enough convenience and a boot for if you are a “family helper” type of fellow. Comfortable ride and comes with a good stereo and A/C. 5 people (including the driver) can comfortably enjoy the journey.

TATA Indica GLX Xeta
Truly a masterpiece. A Hatchback with style. Got an excellent stereo system, A/C and super comfortable. Most spacious of the 4 cars I’m reviewing right now. Only trouble is the engine. As you accelerate you’ll feel that the car is slightly moving towards right. Still, good value for your money.

Maruti Suzuki Zen XLI
Absolutely brilliant hatchback. Ride is very very very enjoyable. Comfort is at its best. It’s like putting together a car with all the good qualities of TATA Indigo and Indica. Only drawback is the stereo. It is not as good as the Indica’s. Never-the-less Suzuki Zen gives you more value for money plus energy efficient too. I haven’t driven the new version… it looks absolutely FANTASTIC!

That’s about it. I’ll review more cars when I drive them. I hope that this will help you in some way to pick a good Brand New Car as your first vehicle.

I only watched for the advertisement…

Superbowl XLV… Oh yeah! Most watch for the game, but some watch for the commercials. And what a series of commercials they were. The most famous one would be the Volkswagen-Starwars ad. But, I was watching for something else. Yep, Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

I’ll run a re-cap… mind you… Spoilers!

  • Trailer starts with Chicago under attack by the Decepticon troops. The troops belong to Shockwave it seems. New leader and even Megatron is on the run. On the right side of the screen we see a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle driving towards the war zone.
  • Sure enough, inside it we see Sam Witwicky observing the mass destruction. The driver is Epps as I heard.
  • Then we see N.E.S.T soldiers skydiving to the battlezone. In the background, buildings are crumbling down to earth. Chicago is facing doom.
  • Ironhide is then seen colliding with two Dreads and all three of them transforming in mid-air. Dreads are Megatron’s minion. Those dudes are scary as hell. These assassins take on a Chevrolet SUV vehicle form.
  • Bumblebee is moaning in despair. Something terrible has happened or happening. We see a massive Decepticon Airship up in the sky. Very dramatic.
  • At dusk… Decepticons begins the assault against Chicago. The city is showered by missiles.
  • Then we see some sort of a Drillbot tearing the Chicago  streets apart. It is unknown, who or what this is.
  • Laserbeak descending onto a car. It is rumored that Simmons is inside the car and gets crippled as a result of the attack.
  • Sam and Epps on the ground. Optimus is standing not too far behind.
  • Carly is witnessing something horrific apparently. Behind her, devastation is in full motion.
  • Next we see the most awesome part of the trailer. Optimus Prime all suited-up in an armor Jet is arriving at a battle scene. Bottom left we see Ratchet setting fire to a Decepticon while Bumblebee is shooting at someone. Far to the right Brawl is seen and… Shockwave.
  • Optimus Prime lands on the ground, ditches the Jet, shoots at Long Haul, stabs Sideways and eventually cut a Decepticon in half.

All this happens in a short space of 30 seconds. Imagine how the movie is going to be.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon, coming to theaters July 1st, 2011.
