WTF @ CWC?...

I’m not a big fan of Cricket but I support my country in every way possible. Oh yes, you know what I’m talking about… Cricket World Cup is here. And the Opening Ceremony was… kind of OK!?!

I’m a HUGE fan of Opening Ceremonies and Closing Ceremonies of sports events. These are just absolute wonderful pieces of art, showing the culture, heritage of the said country. It seems as though this doesn’t apply to South Asian region. Alright let’s not just go that far… It doesn’t apply to Sri Lanka more specifically.

I first experienced our lack of pride towards the country’s heritage at sports events when “Ladaki badi” (or whatever it was called) played and teeny-tiny kids danced sensually (bad word, couldn’t find anything else) to it. I mean, Come-on? We chose to play a 'Hindi' song at a 'Sri Lankan' (organized) sports festival. This isn’t even a local event. An entire region was watching. Indians must have been laughing their @$$es-off in India.

And now this. A song for a sports event should make our team proud of what they are about to do. It should be motivational and give off a sense of honor. Turn on your TV at 10am. You’ll hear dozens of songs written and performed specifically for the Cricket World Cup. Only few are worthy. Other songs are just pieces of garbage. What drug were they on when they wrote the songs?

Yesterday… BnS… What happened dudes? You guys are my heroes. I looked up to you. You have changed the Sri Lankan music industry (in a good way). But what-in-the-world has happened to you now? Your Cricket song is not a song… it’s a friking commercial for “Koththu-Me”. And what were you doing yesterday at the Opening Ceremony? I’ve seen trained monkeys perform better (seriously, I have).

South Asian Countries, Google “Asian Games 2010 Opening/Closing Ceremony China” and learn. Period!

A School With A Difference...

VERY promising!

A Boy And His Car…

Every boy love to own a car. When he comes of age, which is one of his dreams. I was lucky enough to drive few new cars, enough to tell you some tips about what to buy first. I’ll tell you a little bit about some cars you should consider buying first if you are living in Sri Lanka.

Indian Cars… That should sum things up. Cheap and small, ideal for any boy to buy one if he’s “new” conscience. Let’s rundown some cars I know. Best for the last…

Maruti Suzuki
Cheap; that’s the only good thing about it. It’s not a bad car, but no soul or passion. Ride is stiff and uncomfortable. You do get a “Car” for the namesake of it. Buy this if you have absolutely no money to buy anything else. Good mileage to the gallon though. Seating best for 4 (including the driver).

TATA Indigo
Good car. Lightyears better than Maruti. Got enough convenience and a boot for if you are a “family helper” type of fellow. Comfortable ride and comes with a good stereo and A/C. 5 people (including the driver) can comfortably enjoy the journey.

TATA Indica GLX Xeta
Truly a masterpiece. A Hatchback with style. Got an excellent stereo system, A/C and super comfortable. Most spacious of the 4 cars I’m reviewing right now. Only trouble is the engine. As you accelerate you’ll feel that the car is slightly moving towards right. Still, good value for your money.

Maruti Suzuki Zen XLI
Absolutely brilliant hatchback. Ride is very very very enjoyable. Comfort is at its best. It’s like putting together a car with all the good qualities of TATA Indigo and Indica. Only drawback is the stereo. It is not as good as the Indica’s. Never-the-less Suzuki Zen gives you more value for money plus energy efficient too. I haven’t driven the new version… it looks absolutely FANTASTIC!

That’s about it. I’ll review more cars when I drive them. I hope that this will help you in some way to pick a good Brand New Car as your first vehicle.

I only watched for the advertisement…

Superbowl XLV… Oh yeah! Most watch for the game, but some watch for the commercials. And what a series of commercials they were. The most famous one would be the Volkswagen-Starwars ad. But, I was watching for something else. Yep, Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

I’ll run a re-cap… mind you… Spoilers!

  • Trailer starts with Chicago under attack by the Decepticon troops. The troops belong to Shockwave it seems. New leader and even Megatron is on the run. On the right side of the screen we see a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle driving towards the war zone.
  • Sure enough, inside it we see Sam Witwicky observing the mass destruction. The driver is Epps as I heard.
  • Then we see N.E.S.T soldiers skydiving to the battlezone. In the background, buildings are crumbling down to earth. Chicago is facing doom.
  • Ironhide is then seen colliding with two Dreads and all three of them transforming in mid-air. Dreads are Megatron’s minion. Those dudes are scary as hell. These assassins take on a Chevrolet SUV vehicle form.
  • Bumblebee is moaning in despair. Something terrible has happened or happening. We see a massive Decepticon Airship up in the sky. Very dramatic.
  • At dusk… Decepticons begins the assault against Chicago. The city is showered by missiles.
  • Then we see some sort of a Drillbot tearing the Chicago  streets apart. It is unknown, who or what this is.
  • Laserbeak descending onto a car. It is rumored that Simmons is inside the car and gets crippled as a result of the attack.
  • Sam and Epps on the ground. Optimus is standing not too far behind.
  • Carly is witnessing something horrific apparently. Behind her, devastation is in full motion.
  • Next we see the most awesome part of the trailer. Optimus Prime all suited-up in an armor Jet is arriving at a battle scene. Bottom left we see Ratchet setting fire to a Decepticon while Bumblebee is shooting at someone. Far to the right Brawl is seen and… Shockwave.
  • Optimus Prime lands on the ground, ditches the Jet, shoots at Long Haul, stabs Sideways and eventually cut a Decepticon in half.

All this happens in a short space of 30 seconds. Imagine how the movie is going to be.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon, coming to theaters July 1st, 2011.
